Tunisia-FTDES: 216 protest movements in November 2023

According to the monthly report from the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights (FTDES), the number of demonstration movements registered in November 2023 amounted to 216, compared to 180 in October.

Educational establishments have surged in the list of demonstration sites with 92 movements, a significant increase from the 13 observed in October. The majority of protesters are parents, often joined by a large number of students, advocating for the assurance of school transport due to a shortage of buses in numerous educational institutions. Several demonstrations were noted with substitute teachers participating.

The FTDES report indicates that one of the primary reasons for these demonstrations is the lack of drinking water. Residents in areas facing water shortages continue to demand their right to water, which is guaranteed by the constitution.
