3,222 schools are linked to the network of the Tunisian Water Exploitation and Distribution Company (SONEDE), or 70% of the total, while 834 schools in rural areas rely on water associations for their supply, announced the Tunisian Forum for Socio-Economic Rights in its latest report.
“The majority of these associations suffer from various financial and structural problems, leading to cuts or shortages of drinking water. Furthermore, approximately 527 primary schools, or 12% of the total, are entirely without water and are supplied by tankers whose source remains unknown and not listed on the official websites of the Ministry of Education or at the level of the regional structures attached to it, consequently jeopardising the lives of many students” indicates the same source.
