Tunisia-Hamdi Hashad: “Water situation in Tunisia is more frightening than ever before” [Video]

Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, environmental engineer specializing in climate affairs, Hamdi Hached, expressed that the digital models adopted to simulate climate changes indicate a predicted decrease in rainfall rates, emphasising that these expectations would hurt the mobilization of water resources in Tunisia.

He stressed that this situation will harm Tunisian agriculture and its products, stating that the talk today has turned to food security, as many questions are raised concerning food sovereignty as a result of these climate changes that the country is witnessing.

The same source also continued to say that most expectations show an extension of drought periods and a decline in the rain in Tunisia. Usually, every three years of drought is accompanied by a rainy year, and today it has become clear that these periods have been extended, as Tunisia is encountering 7 years of drought compared to one rainy year in the year. 2018, which makes the water reality in Tunisia more frightening than ever before.
