Tunisia-INP addresses auction of Tunisian heritage pieces in Paris

The National Heritage Institute (INP) clarified on the news of the forthcoming auction of 114 pieces of Tunisian heritage that will be held in a Parisian hotel,the TAP reported.
In a press release posted on its Facebook page, The INP desired to clarify the situation, which, it should be remembered, has been recorded in recent days by some Tunisian media.
The auction of pieces relating to a Tunisian dignitary of the Beylic era will be held on June 11, at the Hotel Drout in Paris, reads the catalogue on the website www.coutaubegarie.com
It is the “collection of a Tunisian Dignitary of the Beylical Court – Set of documents, works, historical memories and wardrobe that belonged to Sidi Lahbib Djellouli (1879-1957), Caïd-Governor of Kairouan, Nabeul, and Beja, then Minister of the Pen and Minister of Justice of the Bey, kept by his son Ahmed Djellouli (1930-2011), then by descendants and others.”
According to the INP, “the exhibited pieces belong to no museum or national repository.”
“It is a private collection, most of which belong to Ahmed Jallouli who passed away in 2011,” it specified.
The INP stated that it was unaware of the date on which these records would have left the national territory, stating that no permit had been issued by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.
Co-ordination is on between the INP Directorate and ambassador and permanent representative of Tunisia to the UNESCO, to stop this auction.
If this initiative does not work, “the Tunisian State will opt for diplomatic channels to acquire the parts in question.
The INP states that it holds the right to initiate legal proceedings.
