The President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, welcomed this Thursday, April 15, 2021, the President of the Supreme Judicial Council (CSM) Youssef Bouzakher, who gave him the Council’s second 2018-2019 annual report.
On this occasion, the Head of State reiterated his unconditional support for the independence of the judiciary, emphasising that an independent judiciary is one of the pillars of the rule of law and a key pillar of the fight against corruption in all areas.
Kaïs Saïed pointed out the slowness seen in the processing of some court cases “as if there were two types of justice”, slowness that the president of the CSM attributed to the workload of the judges and the complexity of certain cases.
The head of state then spoke of the establishment of the Constitutional Court, stressing that “some” are attempting to utilise it as a tool for settling scores adding “I will apply the constitution above all considerations”.
Kaïs Saïed, for whom the justice file is of crucial significance, did not fail to mention that if the honest judges block corruption and the purposes of some politicians, others, on the other hand, let themselves be carried away. in sordid affairs. “To combat against this, we need to improve legislation and assure that no one can escape conviction,” he concluded.
