The individual who had armed himself with a knife and an axe to launch an attack against police officers in front of the seat of the ministry of the interior at the Avenue Habib Bourguiba in Tunis is a 31-year-old man, identified to the security services as being suspected of belonging to a terrorist organization, and had been subject to administrative control since his arrival from Syria, via Libya, 3 years ago.
The individual is from Mahdia and lives in Ksar Helal, of the governorate of Monastir. He was experiencing psychiatric care at Sahloul hospital for hyper aggression and violent temper. The suspect came to Tunis yesterday in a private car, which he left in Bab Alioua, before going to his uncle’s home, to spend the night there.
The security forces succeeded in subdue him as he launched his assault on the police, he was shot in the left leg. The individual’s uncle has been detained for the purposes of the investigation.
