Libya has decided to provisionally halt the entry of Tunisian salt into its territory and to suspend all imports till it is confirmed that this product complies with standards.
According to the Libyan Food Control Center, diverse breaches have been reported to this effect, in particular with regard to the percentage of iodine addition, the root of the product (is not of marine origin), and the different chemical characteristics. The centre likewise accused the Tunisian side of manufacturing packaging based on recycled plastic that cannot be utilised in packaging designed for food contact.
