Tunisia-Mahdia: Speculators placed behind bars

The court of first instance of Mahdia has issued two arrest warrants against two speculators,, spokesperson for the courts of Monastir and Mahdia  Farid Ben Jha confirmed.

In a statement to the TAP agency, Ben Jha revealed that the first monopolist seized a quantity of around 18 tons of potato, which was kept in one of the anarchic warehouses of the delegation of Ksour El- Sep. 3.5 tonnes of subsidized sugar were also seized from the second suspect, from the Rejiche delegation, he said.

To this end, the Ministry of Trade and Export Development declared that a joint plan has been developed between four ministries to deal with the scourge of speculation. These are the Ministry of Commerce, the Interior, Finance, and that of Agriculture which will join their efforts in the development of ongoing quality control programs in different cycles of production, storage and distribution. until normal supplies and prices are restored.

The maximum legal measures will be applied against cases of breach, including the seizure of goods and means of transport, and the imposition of the highest judicial and administrative sanctions, in coordination with the public prosecutor. Likewise, the Tunisian Customs revealed that it has made available to citizens a toll-free number (80103066), to inform all notifications related to smuggling and speculation of basic and subsidized products.

This toll-free number is open to receive all notifications and report customs violations and all difficulties encountered during import and export via land, sea and airmail.
