Tunisia-Minister of Commerce: Price regulation will only be used in extreme cases

Speaking to Shems FM, Trade Minister Mohamed Boussaïd announced that price regulation will only be used in extreme cases.

He further indicated that currently no price regulation will be needed in order to counter a possible increase, specifying that the rise in the prices of peppers and tomatoes is due to their sale off season and to prices that cover the charges of  farmers.

Mohamed Boussaid revealed that the ministry is doing what is required to cover the needs of citizens during the month of Ramadan and that the ministry has doubled the number of points of sale from producer to consumer.

The minister further stressed that it would be unacceptable to demand the farmer to lower the prices to the point of no longer being able to cover his expenses, adding that he is working to lower the prices as much as possible.
