Tunisia-Nissaf Ben Alaya:The number of infections and deaths with COVID-19 on the rise

Speaking to the TAP, spokeswoman for the Health Ministry Nissaf Ben Alaya  indicated on Saturday that works are currently concentrated on breaking the upward trend of the coronavirus so that the peak in the spread of the virus is not reached and to bypass the critical consequences this could have on the health system due to the capacity limited hospitals, noting that the scientific committee advised maintaining all exceptional measures to limit the spread of the virus such as curfew.

She confirmed that the Ministry of Health is in the process of embracing a dynamic and advanced plan to fight the virus, which includes, in particular, the strengthening of the first line of the health system ( basic health care centers and local hospitals) to help rapid response teams in their activities during investigation and diagnosis.

She further indicated that the Ministry of Health is building the capacity of the SAMU emergency medical aid to receive telephone calls from citizens about the coronavirus on the number 190. She also emphasized that the efforts of the health surveillance teams have been augmented by telephone lines to contact patients and make field visits to patients in order to evaluate their housing conditions before it is decided to keep them in self-isolation or to take them to hospital.

Ben Alaya stressed that the epidemiological situation is still dangerous, given that the daily rate of infection with the Coronavirus is 1,200 cases, including between 24 and 30 deaths per day, most of whom are elderly people with factors of risk.
