Tunisia [Photo]-Motion for French colonialism apology: Details of voting

The House of People’s Representatives (HPR) rejected at a plenary session the draft motion submitted by the Al Karama coalition asking the French government to apologise to the Tunisian people for crimes committed during and after colonisation.

 

The motion failed to get all the 109 votes required for its adoption after its revision with 77 votes in favour, 5 against and 46 abstentions.

Below are the voting details, according to the parliamentary blocs:

  • Ennahdha: Out of 54 MPs , 5 voted in favor, 2 against and 6 abstained.
  • Democrat Bloc: Out of 39 MPs 32 voted for, 0 against and 0 abstained.
  • 9alb Tounes bloc : Out of 27 MPs only 1 voted in favor, 0 against and 15 abstained.
  • El Karama coalition bloc: Out of 19 MPs , 18 voted in favor.
  • PDL bloc: Out of 16 MPs , 0 for, 0 against and 15 abstained.
  • Reform bloc: Out of 16 MPs , 3 voted for, 0 against and 3 abstained.
  • Tahya Tounes bloc: Out of 14 MPs , 0 voted in favor, 2 against and 3 abstained.
  • National Bloc: Out of 11 MPs , 1 voted in favor, 0 against and 3 abstained.
  • Al Mostakbal bloc: Out of 9 MPs , voted for, 0 against and 1 abstained.
  • Independent: Out of 12, 11 voted for
