Tunisia-Photos of the day: 2nd day of the strike and we are already beginning to see the consequences

The nation was blockaded yesterday by a significant event considered unprecedented in the history of Tunisia: 4 strikes in critical sectors, essential to assure the continuity of services to citizens.

The distributors of wholesale domestic gas cylinders, the agents of the Post Office, the STEG and the municipality declared the hiatus of their work except for pressing cases, given that the workers of the Post Office observed another strike on January 19 and 20. On the other side, professionals working within the municipalities on February 21 and 22 claim a number of demands including the execution of the fundamental law, the special bonus and the order linking to the re-employment of employees and agents according to their qualifications.

At this level, the legitimacy of the right to strike is undeniable, regardless other details should be taken into consideration, especially in the face of the complicated crisis that is getting bogged down in the country. The blocking of the machinery of the State which is desperately attempting to fill its coffers and the powerful disruption of vital sectors, of which the poor citizen would be the first victim, will not change much contrary to the beliefs of the strikers. Because, in the end, it is the image of the country that is at stake!

Speaking of the image of the country, it would be a good idea to take a look at the roads of the city of Tunis, the surrounding areas and go to visit the popular neighbourhoods where massive amounts of waste and household waste are crowded. Tons of waste stockpiled in the neighbourhoods have turned into smelly mountains that are harmful to health and the environment. And these scenes of garbage are occurring again in a short period of time in the absence of sufficient measures taken by the authorities to contain this problem until the municipal agents return to work!
