Tunisia-President Kais Saied announces from Libya start of preparations for Tunisian-Libyan Joint High Commission

A preparatory Commission will assemble in the following weeks to prepare works of the Tunisian-Libyan High Joint Commission meeting and discuss various technical matters, President of the Republic Kais Saied announced Wednesday at the Palace of Dhiafa in Tripoli.
The President of the Republic, Kais Saied, visited Libya on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, as part of a formal visit where he was greeted by the President of the Libyan Presidential Council Mohamed al-Menfi.

He later went to the Dhiafa Palace, in Tripoli, to hold prolonged and bilateral talks with Menfi, in particular first and foremost economic and development issues.

It was therefore agreed to boost commercial activities and set in place an action plan to stimulate investments, in particular by facilitating border crossings between the two nations and by simplifying financial procedures between the Central Bank of Tunisia and the Libyan Central Bank.
Kais Saied and Mohamed Menfi have further agreed to exchange expertise and enhance bilateral cooperation in different fields, through the acceleration of the holding of high joint commissions.

Emphasis was likewise placed on “the need for Tunisia to proceed to support the Libyan democratic process as Tunisia’s security is the responsibility of Libya”.

The meeting took place in the attendance of the vice-presidents of the chairman of the Libyan presidential council, Moussa Kouni and Abdallah Ellafi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Najla Mankouch, and the Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohamed Houij on the Libyan side.

On the Tunisian side were present the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Othman Jerandi, as well as members of the presidential cabinet, in particular the adviser in charge of economic issues.
