On Wednesday, December 27, 2023, Head of State Kais Saïed stated that the El Fouladh factory in Menzel Bourguiba is an important asset for Tunisia and highlighted that it will not be sold to individuals.
During his unannounced visit to the El Fouladh steel company headquarters on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, President Saïed voiced concern about millions of tons of iron belonging to the Tunisian Railways Company lying as scrap metal, scattered and abandoned. He called for the retrieval of this iron and its return to the El Fouladh Company.
In reaffirming the factory’s importance, President Saïed underlined its status as one of Tunisia’s riches.
