Tunisia: Socialist Party to boycott local elections scheduled for December 24

The Secretary General of the Socialist Party, Moncef Cherigui reported this Monday, October 30, 2023 “the boycott of his party of the local elections planned for December 24, 2024”.

During his speech on a private radio station, Cherigui stated that “the Socialist Party, and other parties, will issue a press release under the title “No to municipal elections(…) We have been living in turmoil since the 25 July.”, according to him.

Concerning the presidential elections, he specified that “the Socialist Party will participate if there is the adoption of an electoral law ensuring the organization of progressive elections. He emphasised , “that in the absence of such an electoral law, they will also boycott the 2024 presidential elections.”
