Tunisia Survey, an expert in online surveys and digital studies, has just disclosed the results of its fourth survey wave on “The Tunisian Today & Tomorrow”.
This study is founded on a self-administered online survey which took place from February 14 to 26, 2024 with 500 respondents.
On a self-declared basis, respondents were essentially asked to:
- Voice their level of satisfaction or not with their current life situation;
- Give their opinion on the current situation in the country;
- Assess the monthly cost of living for a single person and a family of 04 people;
- Talk out about immigration.
MORE THAN HALF OF RESPONDENTS ARE DISSATISFIED WITH THEIR CURRENT LIVING SITUATION:
43.4% of respondents are pleased with their current life situation. This “satisfaction” varies depending on gender and age since:
- Women are the most dissatisfied population with 61% compared to 54.9% for men.
- Those aged 50 and over are the most dissatisfied age group with 59.2%.
MIXED OPINIONS ON THE CURRENT SITUATION IN THE COUNTRY
To the inquiry“What do you think of the current situation in the country?”, 35% of respondents think that the situation in the country is bad. This opinion differs depending on gender and age.
Indeed, 44.5% of women believe that the situation in the country is bad compared to 31.5% of men.
25 to 49-year-olds are furthermore the age group which most describes the situation in the country as bad at 36.2%.
According to professional status, business leaders are the most negative category. 47.2% of business leaders describe the situation in the country as bad.
RESPONDENTS Split
To the question “Do you think that the situation in the country will improve”, nearly half of the respondents (49.2%) think that the situation will not improve.
Men are more optimistic than women with respectively 54.4% against 41.3% who believe that the situation in the country will improve.
People aged 50 and over are the most optimistic with 53.1% believing that the situation in the country will improve.
2/3 of “optimistic” respondents think that the situation in the country should improve in the next 1 to 3 years.
1/4 of optimists think that the situation in the country should improve in the next 5 years.
ISSUES IN GOVERNANCE, POLICY AND THE ECONOMY: MAIN CONCERNS
To the question “Why, do you believe that the situation in the country will not improve?” the major reasons mentioned by respondents are:
- Economic crisis
- Political instability
- Corruption
- Lack of vision/strategy
- Bad governance
- Decline in purchasing power
ESTIMATED MONTHLY BUDGET:
On average, respondents estimate that a single individual needs 1,736 TND per month to live adequately.
Participants also evaluate that a family of 4 people needs 3,146 TND per month, on average, to live adequately.
IMMIGRATION AS AN ALTERNATIVE:
45.4% of respondents have already thought about immigration.
According to respondents, the main reasons for immigration are:
- Economic crisis
- Political instability
- Corruption
- Lack of vision/strategy
- Bad governance
- Decline in purchasing power
