Noureddine Taboubi, secretary-general of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) stated that the President of the Republic Kais Saied has become the judge and the leader because it is he who decides who enters jail and who remains in a state of freedom.
Taboubi added the UGTT does not seek to make strikes but seeks deep solutions capable of meeting the critical needs in the various private and public sectors.
He assessed that the UGTT is targeted because the government of Najla Bouden desires to pass painful reforms and that it seeks to carry accusations against the UGTT in order to distract the public opinion of the country’s sensitive files.
Furthermore, he considered that the detention of Anis Kaabi, secretary general of the Tunisia Autoroutes Society, was not because he was a thief, but because he was a fighter.
It is recollected that the UGTT is currently organizing a national administrative committee in Tunis, to discuss the latest developments in the union situation.
The meeting will be dedicated to the study of the responses to the attacks aimed at the union organization, but it will likewise carry to examine general freedoms and the union right, in particular after the arrest of the secretary general of the Society of the Tunisia Society, Anis Kaabi.
