Tunisia – Towards revision of duration of maternity and paternity leave

MP Maher Guetari talked today, on a private radio station, about an initiative launched by a certain number of MPs aimed at adjusting the duration of maternity and paternity leave in Tunisia.

He clarified that there are two initiatives, the first launched by around 16 deputies associated with vacations in the public sector and the second bringing together the two sectors: “That is why we have combined the two initiatives and they will be examined soon.

He added: “The bill is important because it concerns family cohesion taking into account the role of the father and mother to the child,” adding that the initiative provided for the extension of parental leave by two days to 10 days and the unification of regulations between the leave system in the public and private sectors to come closer to international standards.

He added that the initiative included a proposal to give three weeks of leave to the mother before giving birth. As for maternity leave, the first initiative proposed 6 months and the second 4 months.
