Tunisia-Tunisia participates in High-level Meetings of 78th Session of UN General Assembly

Upon instructions of the President of the Republic,Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Nabil Ammar will head the Tunisian delegation participating in the High-level Meetings of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, from September 18 to 23, 2023.
Mr Ammar will deliver Tunisia’s Declaration to the general debate of this session under the theme, “Rebuilding trust and reigniting global solidarity: Accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals towards peace, prosperity, progress and sustainability for all”.

He will likewise represent our country in diverse high-level events on the session’s agenda, including the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, the Climate Ambition Summit, the High-Level Meeting on Financing for Development, the Preparatory Ministerial Meeting for the Future Summit and the High-Level Meeting of the General Assembly on Universal Health Coverage. During these events, the Minister will carry the voice of Africa within the framework of the Tunisian presidency of the African Group in New York for the current month.

In addition to these significant events, the Minister will partake in particular in the Consultations of Arab Foreign Ministers, the Ministerial Meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Meeting of the Special Liaison Committee for the coordination of assistance international assistance to the Palestinians, the Ministerial Meeting on strengthening African cooperation in the fight against terrorism, as well as at the Meeting of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union.

Several bilateral meetings are correspondingly on the Minister’s agenda with his counterparts from brotherly and friendly nations aimed at strengthening cooperation ties and discussing opportunities to diversify partnerships with our country. Other meetings are also scheduled with senior UN officials and heads of international and regional organizations to further consolidate cooperative relations between Tunisia and the organizations concerned.

Among the most important priorities of Tunisian participation in this session are backing for national economic recovery efforts, the examination of questions of financing development, the recovery of stolen funds, the management of the food and energy crises, the collective fight against the root causes of irregular migration, as well as climate action. Added to these priorities is the reaffirmation of the foundations of Tunisian foreign policy, including in particular respect for international legality, support for just causes, first and foremost the Palestinian cause.
