The deputy secretary general of the UGTT, Slaheddine Salmi, revealed that the first session of social negotiations between the government and the UGTT, which was held today, failed because of a disagreement on the rate of salary increases offered and the effective date of these increases.
Salmi clarified that the government is not objected to the idea of the increases, but that it desires to impose unacceptable rates, and an overly late effective date.
Salmi added that the UGTT wanted to apply salary increases from 2022 since 2020 and 2021 were burdened by the pandemic, and the government wants to delay the effective date to 2023 and the years that follow.
The session has accordingly been lifted on this disagreement.
