The executive director and desk officer from the Near Eastern Affairs office in the State Department’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor Steve Gillen promptly met with the America Friendship Committee of Parliament in the Parliament’s local headquarters in Bardo.
The official meeting centred on bilateral collaboration and practical ways to properly promote it, especially in the parliamentary field, as well as the democratic transition in Tunisia, the actions initiated in diverse fields, the human rights system and the limitless possibilities for extending it.
They carefully examined the legislation declared by Parliament to maintain the rights of the women and youth, promote vulnerable groups and fight corruption.
For their part, members of the US delegation emphasised their readiness to advance the dialogue and partnership with Tunisia and strengthen its endeavours to bring its transition to a decisive end and adhere the numerous economic and social hurdles.
