Tunisia-Video: Tunisians views on the way the Ministry of Health is managing the health crisis

To obtain a view of Tunisian’s assessment of how to manage the COVID crisis in Tunisia, both by the government and by the citizen, the editorial staff of Tunisie Numerique interviewed several citizens through all regions of the country.

The opinions of the citizens were almost alike, insofar as they acknowledge that the citizen has his share of responsibility in the decline of the epidemiological situation, with his indifference and his recklessness, as well as his categorical rejection to submit to the rules of the health protocol beginning with the wearing of protective masks.

But the majority of citizens believe that the state bears most of the responsibility for this catastrophic state. Some even blame the state of having reintroduced the virus into the country, after the former team succeeded in eradicating it.

The citizens, while acknowledging that the State did not have the material means to face this pandemic, do not accuse it less of nonchalance, of lack of reactivity in the face of the gravity of the situation, of having needlessly reopened the borders, for not having prepared as necessary for this second wave, for being surprised by the situation.

Some citizens accuse the state of making solely decisions that are in its best interests, without giving any interest in the health of the citizen. Others accuse the health ministry, in a particular way of having failed in its mission to preserve the health of the Tunisian, of having badly assessed the risks, of not having provided for the sufficient number of resuscitation beds and virological test kits.

Some have pointed out that the Minister of Health made unenforceable decisions, which forced him to overturn them the very next day, such as those concerning cafes.

In addition to the Ministry of Health which, according to the opinion of the interviewees, assumes the greatest share of responsibility, citizens also believe that the ministers of education and transport have failed in their mission and are not failed to put in place applicable health protocols.

At the end, desperate for the possibility of seeing the state triumph over this pandemic, some citizens do not hesitate to advocate a return to general lockdown, knowing the cost of such an operation.
