Speaking to Tunisie Numérique,Hatem Mliki affirmed that all parties are concerned in the battle against corruption, however tracking down the corrupt is not enough. According to him, this phenomenon can only be exterminated by reviewing public policies, applicable laws and improving the standard of living of citizens.
“In some cases, it is the state that condones corruption by setting in place complex judicial procedures subject to wide discretion and interpretation, therefore opening the door to bribes and embezzlement ”he revealed .
Hatem Mliki declared that Tunisia is the single nation in the world where the number of those charged in police custody far surpasses the number of inmates, a country where people are detained for customs offences. He added that the fight against corruption will only be effective after a thorough judicial and criminal restructuring.
