Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, the UGTT secretary-general said that the governorate of Sfax will host the 25th UGTT congress this year. He revealed that the congress will be held in exceptional circumstances. It will therefore be organized under the sign of the national will. “It will seek to chart the future of Tunisia during the following period,” he added.
The UGTT will take care of fulfilling its true national role to rescue Tunisia from this economic crisis, according to him. “The UGTT plays a leading role in the establishment of a republican regime and a civil, democratic and social state that brings jointly all parties.
Concerning the comments of some trade unionists who believe the holding of this congress as illegal, Tabboubi rejected all these allegations and specified that the UGTT brings together all the young people of the Union. “The outcomes of this congress will form the real roadmap which will be adopted by the next secretary-general of the UGTT”, confirmed Tabboubi. He also felt that no one can deny Tunisians their right to freedom and their right to demonstrate.
