Tunisia-World Organization Against Torture provides assistance to “victims of July 25”

The World Organization Against Torture (OMCT) condemned the refusal of the suspension of execution of administrative decisions relating to house arrest by the administrative court. OMCT Secretary General Gerald Staberock maintained that the administrative tribunal has decided to give the executive  power”a blank check” by enabling serious human rights violations with harmful material and moral repercussions.

The Secretary-General estimated that through this reversal of case law, the administrative judge is giving up his role of safeguard against the abuse of power, whereas he had till then most often been defined by his independence in litigation related to arbitrary restrictions of liberty by the Ministry of the Interior.

OMCT has indicated that it has made available to victims the security measures applied since July 25, two models of recourse:

  • A model of recourse against bans/obstacles to leaving Tunisian territory
  • A model of appeal against house arrest
