Tunisia-Zouheir Maghzaoui: ministerial reshuffle is part of the president’s prerogatives

“Any reshuffle or change in the government is par excellence an exclusive prerogative of the President of the Republic,” said Secretary General of the People’s Movement Zouheir Maghzaoui, adding that “his party has no stake in the government, but rather denounces the government’s failure to deal with key issues and to address the challenges and difficulties faced by the citizens.

Maghzaoui affirmed in a statement to TAP on Sunday, that the President of the Republic is urgently called upon to deal with four major issues, namely the electoral law, economic and social issues, the accountability file and the efficiency of the government’s action.

“These are all challenges and difficulties that should no longer prevent the government from acting decisively and effectively to counter corruption and speculation and to address the problems and concerns of the citizen,” he pointed out.

“We no longer need to recall that the July 25 process was initiated to meet the long-awaited social demands of citizens,” the official inidcated, underlining that “the success of the July 25 process lies in fulfilling these social aspirations.”

“Otherwise, the whole process will be doomed to failure,” he warned.

Referring to the electoral law, Maghzaoui said that it cannot be reduced to the single-member or list-based voting system. “Each voting method has its own advantages and disadvantages,” he pointed out, adding that “the main thing is to clean up the electoral climate that has spoiled the elections since 2011 until now.”

Maghzaoui stated that the People’s Movement had a “complete vision” of the revision of the electoral law, saying it had repeatedly invited the President of the Republic to launch a dialogue on this issue.

The National Council of the People’s Movement held its second session on Saturday, to examine the country’s general political situation in the aftermath of the promulgation of the new constitution and as part of the preparations for the upcoming elections.
