The UK recorded 494 deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 33,186 since the beginning of the pandemic.
A total of 87,063 tests took place on 12 May – substantially below the government’s 100,000 target – with 3,242 people testing positive for the disease.
This means 229,705 people have tested positive for coronavirus in the UK so far.
