The United Kingdom and France reached an agreement to curb illegal migration via small boats in the English Channel. The issue has been the source of disputes in the past, particularly after 27 people died trying to cross the Channel last year.
The UK has agreed to provide €72.2 million in funds allowing France to increase the number of its officers patrolling the shore by 40% over the coming months. The deal will result in 350 more French officers being deployed to the beaches in the northwest of the country. The UK and France stated that they have already stopped over 30,000 crossings this year.
