UN chief ‘deeply troubled’ by reports on Israel’s use of AI in bombing

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday expressed deep concern regarding recent reports indicating the Israeli military’s utilization of artificial intelligence to help identify bombing targets in Gaza.

“AI should not contribute to waging war,” Guterres told reporters ahead of the six-month mark since war on October 7 started. “Israeli military campaign has brought relentless death and destruction to Palestinians in Gaza,” the UN chief added, stressing that a large convoy of trucks carrying essential humanitarian aid to Gaza remains stuck at border crossings, underlining that “collective punishment” of the Palestinian people cannot be justified.
