Australia -Tens of thousands told to evacuate as wildfires continue to spread

Tens of thousands of tourists have been asked to evacuate part of the state of Victoria in Australia. Ahead of what is anticipated to be a day of critical fire threat.

Authorities stated temperatures of more than 40 degree Celsius, powerful winds, thunderstorms and a wind shift moving across the state meant Monday would be one of the most vital fire weather days in Victoria’s history.

Approximately 46,000 people are reported to live in Victoria’s East Gippsland region, which is famous with holidaymakers.

State Emergency Management Commissioner Andrew Crisp ordered people to depart no later than Monday morning.

He said at a news conference on Sunday: “What we are saying now, based on the conditions that will be confronting us tomorrow across the state, but in particular in East Gippsland, is that if you’re holidaying in that part of the state, it’s time that you left.

“We are asking you to now leave East Gippsland from that area east of Bairnsdale. You should not be there tomorrow and we want you to get out now.”
