Moderna released a statement on Friday saying it has not found a connection between receiving the company’s COVID-19 vaccine and getting a rare case of heart inflammation, following reports that young people suffered from myocarditis and/or pericarditis after the jab.
“After carefully reviewing the available safety data […] Moderna has not established a causal association with its vaccine. The company will continue to closely monitor these reports and is actively working with public health and regulatory authorities to further assess this issue,” Moderna’s official release said.
A day earlier, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said it recorded a high number of 275 cases of severe heart inflammation since May 31 among people of age 16 through 24 following them receiving a second dose of the Moderna shot. The usual number of cases under normal circumstances would have been between 10 to 102.
