Pakistan cuts mobile phone services on election day

Mobile phone services in Pakistan have been disrupted due to security concerns as the national election commences, the country’s Interior Ministry said on Thursday. According to Arab News, around 128 million registered voters are expected to cast their ballots today.

“Recent incidents of terrorism in the country have resulted in the loss of precious lives. Security measures are necessary to maintain law and order and deal with possible threats, so it has been decided to temporarily suspend mobile service across the country,” the ministry posted on X. Since 1970, the country has conducted a total of 11 elections.
