The figures for sugar imports in 2023 are stunning! Despite the increase in prices, the quantities of imported sugar grew by 32% compared to 2022, going from 292.5 thousand tonnes in 2022 to 386.1 thousand tonnes in 2023.
In 2023, international sugar prices grew by 13.3% year-on-year. A heavy bill for the country: The imported quantities cost Tunisia 750.8 million dinars compared to 502 million dinars in 2022, an upsurge of 49.6%.
If we take into account the total population (11.8 million inhabitants), the average annual consumption per person is assessed at 32.7 kg of sugar.
