Tunisia-Abdel Kabir: Ras Jedir border crossing to open from Libyan side in upcoming days

Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, head of the Tunisian Observatory for Rights and Liberties, Mustafa Abdel Kabir, confirmed that the Ras Jedir border crossing has been closed for about a week, by decision of the Libyan Minister of the Interior, after the outbreak of a crisis that led to an exchange of fire.

He remarked that a series of intensive meetings have been held since the onset of the crisis, involving representatives from the Libyan state and the Libyan Ministry of Interior, as well as political and civil groups from the Zuwara region. Given that Zuwara supervises the crossing, it was decided to station security forces associated with the Libyan Ministry of Interior at the site. These forces, which are also associated with the Zuwara region and under the Ministry’s umbrella, aim to guarantee the security of the crossing and work towards reinstating its prior level of operation.

Abdel Kabir clarified that all arrangements would be made for the return of customs and all agents operating at the crossing and coordination will be made with the Tunisian side about any new change, adding the crossing will be opened within the next few days.
