Tunisia-Christophe Regnard calls on Kais Saïed to restore the rule of law

The Honorary President of the International Union of Judges (UIM) Christophe Regnard today condemned the dissolution of a legitimate CSM (Superior Council of the Judiciary) and its substitute by another council. He indicated that the members of the provisional CSM must be elected remembering that they were designated by presidential order.

The French magistrate likewise rejected the threats and incessant attacks made by the President of the Republic against professionals in the sector, calling on him to restore the rule of law. Regnard criticised the smear campaigns carried out against judges on social networks clarifying that dismissed judges must be notified of the charges against them, adding that they must have the right to defend themselves. “I salute the exemplary behaviour of the members of the AMT. I am likewise impressed by the attitude of the dismissed magistrates; it is not easy to endanger your life to defend your values. I call on the Head of State to reinstate the irregularly dismissed magistrates and abolish decree-laws 516-13,” Regnard said.
