Tunisian customs has declared that its customs agents in Mahdia have seized an artefact from the Roman era, aboard a fishing boat at Mahdia port.
This seizure took place after an intelligence operation confirmed that the boat is employed for smuggling by sea.
The same source stated that the boat was subject to customs control that revealed the existence, on board, of an amphora which could go back to the Roman era.
A report was established and the case was assigned to the Mahdia maritime guard services to continue the investigation.
