The EU delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee visiting Tunisia issued the following statement, following “Tunisia’s rejection to let them enter the country”.
“We denounce the decision of the Tunisian authorities to deny entry to the delegation of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee and demand a detailed explanation. This behaviour has been unprecedented since the democratic revolution of 2011.
We remain ready and stress the significance of dialogue, including on critical issues. We recall that this Parliament has always approved the overall cooperation program, including the strengthening of democracy and monetary support, as agreed in the EU-Tunisia Association Agreement.
We remain certain, as demanded by the EU since July 2021, that the disastrous economic and social situation in Tunisia, further exacerbated by the humanitarian crisis, urgently requires a comprehensive national dialogue without which the prospects for a political and stable economic situation in Tunisia remains uncertain.” we read in the press release issued on the official website of the European Parliament.
