Tunisia-FM Jerandi receives the US Ambassador in Tunis

Preparations for the visit of a US Congress delegation to Tunis on September 4 and 5 were at the centre of the meeting held Friday in Tunis by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Othman Jerandi with Donald Blome, US Ambassador in Tunis.

Jerandi expressed, on this occasion, Tunisia’s willingness to strengthen cooperation with the United States both bilaterally and multilaterally and to give a new impetus to the strategic partnership uniting the two countries, says a statement of the Foreign Affairs Department.

On the evolution of the situation in Tunisia, Jerandi stressed that the decisions taken on July 25 by the President of the Republic are within the framework of the Constitution and aim at rectifying the democratic process and guaranteeing the sustainability of the State and its institutions.

He stressed the commitment of the Head of State to move forward on the path of consolidating the democratic process within the framework of respect for human rights, freedoms and the rule of law, the same source said.

For his part, the US diplomat expressed his country’s willingness to continue coordination and consultation with the Tunisian leadership on all issues of common interest.

Blome also stressed the US readiness to continue supporting Tunisia at all levels, to complete the democratic construction and boost economic development.

The meeting was also an opportunity to exchange views on regional and international issues of common interest, including the situation in Libya. In this regard, Jerandi welcomed the solidity of fraternal relations between Tunisia and Libya, stressing the determination of the leaders of both countries to strengthen them in the interest of the two brotherly peoples.
