Tunisia-FTDES: More than 300,000 Tunisians completely deprived of drinking water

The Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights (FTDES) has revealed that more than 300,000 Tunisians are totally deprived of drinking water at a time when industrial units such as the Gafsa Phosphate Company (CPG) drain the water table with an estimated annual consumption of 8.9 million cubic meters of water, which is equal to the consumption of 112,000 Tunisians.

The Forum added, in a statement issued on Sunday, June 5, 2022, by its Department of Environmental Justice on the occasion of World Environment Day, that thousands of residents in Tunisia live near so-called “controlled landfills”. ” and other random dumps, and continue to breathe contaminated air and to be exposed with their children to numerous health risks.
