The member of the scientific council for the fight against the coronavirus, Habib Ghédira indicated on Sunday that the situation of the pandemic linked to the coronavirus could worsen within a month if the Tunisians do not commit to respecting the rules of prevention contained in the general health protocol, such as distancing, wearing a mask and washing hands.
In a statement to TAP, Ghédira blasted the slackness observed in a number of citizens who do not respect the preventive measures contained in the health protocol, especially in closed spaces (cafes, restaurants, administrations, wedding ceremonies and other events ) emphasizing the need to be vigilant and take the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the virus.
“The epidemic situation is alarming given the record number of cases of coronavirus contamination recorded in recent days in Tunisia and the increase in the number of deaths” he noted, adding that public hospitals will soon be overloaded due to the increase in the number of patients.
The member of the scientific committee also said that the issue of compulsory confinement is not on the agenda, unlike information relayed on social networks and “which is false and unfounded”.
He clarified that the regional disaster reduction commissions are the only parties empowered to decide on compulsory containment, preventive measures or curfews in governorates experiencing an outbreak of the pandemic.
