Tunisia: High Representative of the EU speaks on December 13 presidential decisions

In reaction to the presidential decisions announced on December 13, 2021, relating to significant political deadlines, in particular the early legislative elections, the European Union revealed in a press release released today that these declarations “constitute an essential step towards the recovery of institutional stability and balance ”

“The success of this process will rely on the concrete modalities of its execution, in particular, it’s anchoring in democratic values ​​and principles as well as its inclusiveness and transparency”, read the press release.

Correspondingly, the European Union reaffirmed its willingness to support Tunisia, as a close ally, with a view to consolidating the democratic path and supporting the nation“in the context of a central pandemic, social and economic crisis in the country, including within the framework of discussions with international financial partners ”.

The EU again confirmed the continued monitoring with attention and within the framework of respect for the sovereignty of the Tunisian people, the situation in the country.

Recollecting, in the same context, the significance of “respect for the democratic acquis, the separation of powers, the rule of law and fundamental rights and freedoms for all Tunisians to secure the stability and prosperity of the country ”.
