Tunisia-Hussein Rhaili: “Recent rains to have extremely positive impact on agricultural activity” [Video]

In a recent statement to Tunisie Numérique, water resources expert Hussein Rhaili remarked on the situation concerning the recent rainfalls and their impact on agriculture. Although the rains were not as heavy as hoped, Rhaili believes their effect on agricultural activity will be extremely positive.

For the first time in two or three years, there are signs of an upcoming fertile spring season. This optimism is partly due to the current filling rate of the dams, which stands at about 35.6 percent, a figure Rhaili considers good, particularly in comparison to the same period the previous year.

However, despite these positive signs, Rhaili warned that Tunisia is still facing challenges with water scarcity. This issue is highlighted by the Prime Minister’s calls for the rationalization of water use and the Ministry of Agriculture’s ongoing policy of periodic water cuts, highlighting the necessity for continued vigilance and conservation efforts in the face of persistent water scarcity challenges.
