Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Othman Jerandi, talked by telephone with his Canadian counterpart, Mélanie Joly. Jerandi reaffirmed, to Mélanie Joly, Tunisia’s attachment to democratic choice and the conservation of freedoms and individual rights.
Othman Jerandi also examined the economic and social reforms that the government is working to execute in order to revive the national economy. The Minister likewise insisted on the positive and constructive dynamic that marks bilateral cooperation relations in multiple sectors and areas of cooperation, in particular higher education and the empowerment of women.
For her part, Mélanie Joly stated that Canada is closely following developments in the political process and the results of the constitutional referendum. Canada desires to see Tunisians adopt a participatory approach bringing together the various political and civil components, especially in view of the next legislative elections scheduled for December 2022.
