Tunisia-Milk collectors cancels Strike

The National Trade Union Chamber of Milk Collection Centers ruled to remove the strike intended for October 27, 28 and 29, declared the Ministry of Agriculture.

This strike arises following an arrangement on the increase of 10 millimes / litre of the milk collection premium, from 23 August 2020, the ministry stated in a press release, adding that the payment of this premium under the 1st quarter of 2020, is expected during the next week.

The agreement was allowed during a working session chaired, Monday, by the chief of staff of the Minister of Agriculture, Saloua Kefi Khiari, in the presence of the directors-general of the Interprofessional Group of red meat and milk,  the Office of Livestock and Pastures as well as the president and treasurer of the National Trade Union Chamber of collection centres.

The Chamber had warned to observe a 3-day strike, from October 27, 2020, and consequently to stop the collection of milk from producers and its delivery to manufacturers. It also threatened to lead an open strike, after this first protest action, from November 3, 2020, “if the authorities do not react to the increase in the premium for collecting and cooling milk and the disbursement, the as soon as possible of these bonuses, in this difficult economic situation “.
