Tunisia-PM Mechichi orders intensification of security campaigns to impose wearing masks

Prime minister Hichem Mechichi met in Kasbah palace on Monday, September 21, 2020, with interior minister Tawfic Charfeddine and higher executive at the interior ministry.

The meeting addressed the country security situation, follow up research in Akouda terrorist operation as well as assessing the level of terrorist threats and the security establishment’s preparations to deal with them. The meeting further tackled the adopted measures to fight COVID-19.

In this context, the head of the government gave his orders to intensify the security campaigns directed at imposing the use of preventive measures, wearing masks in public spaces, places of gathering, in transportation means, stations, and in the vicinity of educational institutions, higher education institutions and all areas concerned with receiving citizens and providing services to them.

The PM stressed the need for more protection and prevention from the Coronavirus and to give the highest priority to the children of the Ministry of Health and the security establishment who first-row soldiers in facing this pandemic.

The Prime Minister also decided to set up a special operations room in the General Administration of the National Guard in Aouina, under the supervision of the Presidency of the Government. It will be concerned with immediate intervention and dealing with emergencies and raising all problems related to the spread of the virus and responding to it. The hall includes representatives from the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Environment and Local Affairs And the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Transport.
