Tunisia-Samir Abdelmoumen: “The new strain of the coronavirus will severely impede our hospitals in four days”

Despite alike features to the original strain, the new variant of the coronavirus troubles both experts and citizens.

The rate of its spread confined the UK from the world. Tunisia, so far spared, risks severe losses if this new strain emerges.

Emergency physician Samir Abdelmoumen warned of the risk it would profess if it arrived in Tunisia.

“If this strain enters Tunisia, all hospitals will be filled in four days,” he said.

“Tunisia does not have the means of large nations and hospitals will reach their highest capacity within four days of the spread of the new strain, particularly as the infection rate exceeds 70%”.

Regarding infections in Tunisia, Abdelmoumen indicated that some citizens were infected for the second time in the space of 2 months.

Speaking on Al Watania 1 yesterday, he said a number of citizens have contracted the virus twice in 60 days.

The number of these patients is not high, he reassures, adding their symptoms are different between the two contaminations.
