President of the Arab Centre for Research and Policy Studies, Mehdi Mabrouk, stated that the increase in crime in Tunisia is due to the failure of the state to implement the law and secure the inclusion of all its citizens.
Speaking during a virtual seminar held, Thursday, on the growth in crime in Tunisia he said that the media coverage of crimes in Tunisia and delivered on social media does not match the reality of crime in the country.
He revealed in his address that murders, extreme violence, robberies and sexual crimes, during the 2010/2020 period, have either raised or decreased but have not reached record figures as described in some media.
He spoke at the meeting, organised at the initiative of the Centre for Islam and Democracy, that the number of rape cases that have been tried by the courts since 2014 and until 2019 does not surpass 433 cases.
He requested for the selection of educational reformation and the rationalisation of media dialogue so that they perform an essential role in moving from an environment that promotes crime to one that deters and eliminates aggressive behaviour.
A group of specialists, who participated in the meeting, estimated that the collection of psychological and socio-economic factors in society fosters an environment conducive to crime in its various forms, stating that repeated violence within the family and the absence of the role of the guardian as support contribute to feeding future adult criminal tendencies.
