Tunisia-The European Union ready to continue supporting Tunisia

Foreign Minister Othman Jerandi received a phone call on Tuesday from European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Olivér Várhelyi, concentrating in particular on ways to strengthen strategic partnerships between Tunisia and the Union European (EU)

The European commissioner expressed the readiness of the EU to continue, in collaboration with donors, to support Tunisia to move forward on the path of structural reforms.

He praised the secular relations uniting Tunisia and the EU in all fields, particularly with regard to technical and financial cooperation, welcoming the support given by the Union to Tunisia during the phase of democratic transition and the crisis linked to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The two parties reaffirmed their readiness to further strengthen strategic cooperation and to prepare well for the next bilateral events.

Representing more than 85% of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the country, the EU remains Tunisia’s largest trading partner.

Tunisia was, in July 1995, the first country on the southern shore of the Mediterranean to sign an association agreement with the European Union. This agreement entered into force in 1998
