The member of the executive office of the Tunisian Union of Agriculture and Fisheries, Tarek Makhzoumi, confirmed on Monday that despite the heavy rainfalls that fell last week in the south of Tunisia, they stay low in the areas cereals.
He added, during his speech on a private radio station, that these rains did not contribute to a rise in the filling rate of the dams either.
He emphasised that many cereal areas in certain regions were impacted by increasing temperatures. A decline in cereal production of 30% is predicted in each of the governorates of Zaghouan, Siliana and Kef. He underlined that more than 100 thousand hectares of cereals in the Kef region were 100% damaged.
Makhzoumi concluded by saying: “If our country experiences more rain in the coming days, some crops could be saved. »
Over the past twenty-four hours, scattered rains fell in parts of the country, according to a monitoring bulletin issued Monday by the National Institute of Meteorology.
