Prime minister Hichem Mechichi has decided to organize today an urgent meeting with the members of the scientific committee. The meeting intends to address the spread of new variants of the COVID-19 us in Tunisia and to explore practical and efficient approaches to fight against these new strains including “through the imposition of drastic and extreme measures” in order to preserve the health of citizens. .
A meeting was likewise held in the attendance of the 4 governors of Grand Tunis, the Minister of Health, and high-ranking security officials. The purpose is to find a way to curb transmission in these governorates given the population density and the problem of separating the delegations.
Mechichi similarly authorized the opening of an inquiry into violations of the rules on preventing gatherings that took place over the weekend and gave his directions to secure that the law is strictly enforced. He also authorized the interim justice minister Hasna Ben Slimane to open an investigation into the security man who died from the coronavirus in front of the Ibn-El Jazzar hospital (Kairouan governorate).
